Local Improvement – Alley Reconstruction
Alley West of 104 Street; South of 102 Ave
As part of the 2015 construction program, the City of Edmonton, Transportation Services will be involved in reconstructing the alley west of 104 Street and south of 102 Avenue, as requested by the majority of owners through the local improvement initiative. Please refer to the map on the back of this bulletin for the general scope of work to be completed during the 2015 construction season.
Alley construction is tentatively scheduled to commence in September of 2015, weather permitting.
Scope of work
The nature of this project is to reconstruct the alley to a new commercial standard. This will improve drivability and drainage issues within the alley. The construction will consist of removing the existing road structure, placing a new gravel base followed by new asphalt pavement.
Access
For construction, the alley will be shut down in 3-4 phases as to create the least amount of impact to underground parking accessibility. However, during each construction phase, the underground accesses that fall within the limits of construction will lose accessibility to the underground parking for as much as 6 consecutive days. Each phase is anticipated to start on a Sunday and end by the following Friday, allowing the alley to be fully open on any given Saturday. Residents are expected to make alternate parking arrangements or utilize public transit during the construction period. Businesses impacted will have to arrange for truck deliveries to be done off the street. Emergency access and garbage pick-up will be maintained at all times.
Tentative Schedule
Phase 1 (104th St to South end of Icon I), Tentatively: Aug 30 to September 11th
Phase 2 (Icon I & icon II which includes the Coast Edmonton Plaza Hotel) and Tentatively: September 13th to 18th
Phase 3 (The Century, The Ten and the Metals Bldg). Tentatively: September 20th to 25th
There will actually be a Phase 4 and that is when they lay the final asphalt coating over the entire alleyway. Tentatively: 1 day – September 27 – 30th
Further detailed construction bulletins will be sent out 7-10 days prior to construction taking place. These bulletins will give a detailed breakdown of the specific dates and limits of each construction phase that will be required in order to reconstruct the alley.
