What the Truck?! Street Closure

What the Truck?! Street Closure

What the Truck?!  is coming to 104 Street on May 24, 2014!

What the Truck?! is a celebration of food trucks and food truck culture in Edmonton with family-friendly, pedestrian-oriented events. Since 2011, our volunteer-run committee has organized events that have taken place in Downtown, Oliver, Old Strathcona and Glenora. Our May 2014 event will be the second time What the Truck?! has taken place on 104 Street; in 2012, we partnered with the Al Fresco Festival.

Event Details:

Date: Saturday, May 24, 2014

Time: 5-9pm

Location: 104 Street, between Jasper and 102 Avenues

We have partnered with the City Market to take advantage of their street closure, and have worked with the City of Edmonton to extend the street closure until 10pm. We will have a DJ on-site who will only play for the duration of the event. We are also arranging for porta-potties to be accessible near the site, and for volunteers to pick up any errant litter during and after the event. No alcohol will be served at the event.

While we do not have our site map yet finalized, we will be taking into account building entrances and patios when considering truck and line placement. However, keep in mind that this festival typically attracts several hundred people. We think this would be a great opportunity for businesses in the area to connect with potential patrons, and for the street itself to continue to highlight the possibilities of a walkable, transit-connected neighbourhood.

On a personal note, both of us reside on the street (in The Century), and are deeply involved in the neighbourhood. Among other things, Mack sits on the condo board of The Century, and Sharon is on the board of the Downtown Edmonton Community League. We love seeing things happen on the street, and we hope you do as well!

If you have any questions about the event, please do not hesitate to contact us at [email protected].
