Alley of Light – Winter Edition 2012

Alley of Light – Winter Edition 2012

The Alley of Light project is moving forward into fall of 2012 and winter of 2013! This past summer the project held activities in the alley and participated in a number of other events—Al Fresco and Alberta Culture Days to name a few.
On Sunday, November 11th from 1 to 3pm, the Alley of Light hosted an Open House in the Atrium at the U of A Enterprise Square. On display were drawings by Destiny Swiderski who was commissioned by the Edmonton Arts Council and the City of Edmonton Department of Sustainable Development to propose a new entrance way between the strip park behind Sobeys and Beaver Hills Park. Also on display were sketches/drawings for the upgrading/redevelopment of the strip park itself that the City Department of Sustainable Development and a group of volunteers from Alley of Light have worked on over the past several months.
Very recently the City developed a Winter City Strategy for Edmonton. Last year the Alley of Light presented IllumiNITE, an outdoor show of sculptures that incorporate ‘light’ as a theme. For 2013 IllumiNITE hopes to again host a sculpture with light through a competition and have it on display in the alley over the long weekend February 18th to the 20th, 2013. In keeping with the City’s Winter Strategy Alley of Light will likely add additional outdoor activities to IllumiNITE! As the 2013 year begins, there will be further information and details on IllumiNITE.
