Close the door on parkade thefts

Thefts from parkades are a big problem. Contact police if you see suspicious persons wandering around a parkade, especially during the night hours. Try to get a good look at the suspect so you can give police the best description.
Here are things you can do to protect your valuables:
- After entering the parkade, wait for the door to shut before proceeding. This will ensure people who don’t belong don’t enter after you.
- Remove anything valuable from your parked vehicle, and don’t leave anything in view. Targeted items include backpacks, iPods/MP3 players and docks, cell phones, wallets, GPS units and their docks, purses, laptops, sunglasses, and loose change.
- Always lock your vehicle to discourage persons from entering and searching it.
- Carry your insurance and registration with you instead of leaving them in your vehicle.
- Never leave a spare key in your vehicle.
- If you use a storage locker in your parkade, make sure it has a good lock. If you store valuables or personal information/documents in the locker, ensure they are out of sight. Best of all, store them in a more secure place not accessible by others.
