Michael Phair Park Officially Opened on 104th Street
The secret is out! The little pocket park on the 104 Promenade north of Jasper is now officially the Michael Phair Park. Over 200 friends, colleagues, and officials attended the official opening on Thursday. Mayor Don Iveson and City Councillor Scott McKeen spoke highly of Michael Phair’s contributions to the city in academia, pride, and the arts.
A picnic in the park followed the official unveiling of the park sign. The park is now a central part of the “urban village in the heart of downtown” that is 104 Street. The number of people filling the park proved that, if it takes a village to raise a child then it takes a city to raise a street.
Many thanks go to the contributors and supporters of the event including:
- Sponsors: Shoppers Drug Mart (Jasper Ave), Downtown Business Association, Dialog Architects, Edmonton Economic Development Corporation (Activation Team), Alberta Real Estate Foundation, University of Alberta, High Level Diner, Re/Max Edmonton & Area Associates

Official ceremonies were conducted by the City of Edmonton and City of Edmonton staff and community volunteers provided logistical support. There help ensured that the event went smoothly.
