Alberta Top Employer Building Legacies

DIALOG is one of Alberta’s Top 70 Employers and a leading interdisciplinary firm working on projects such as Calgary International Airport and Walterdale Bridge.

Alberta, Canada – This morning the Calgary Herald and Edmonton Journal recognized DIALOG as one of Alberta’s Top 65 Employers for the second year in a row. “DIALOG’s success is a result of our commitment to creating a unique and engaging employee experience,” says Director of Human Resources, Willemein van der Wal. “We’re dedicated to our people and career development, there’s diversity and opportunity in our project work, and we’re passionate about designing thriving and sustainable communities.” With four studios across the country, including Calgary and Edmonton, DIALOG’s footprint on the Provinces’ communities is substantial, and their commitment to engaging and improving the places we live is just as significant.

Look around Alberta and you’re sure to find DIALOG projects. Previously known as Cohos Evamy, the firm began in Calgary in 1960, expanded into Edmonton and Toronto, and eventually merged in 2010 with Hotson Bakker Boniface Haden (HBBH) to become DIALOG. Notable Alberta projects include Calgary’s Foothills Medical Clinic, Edmonton’s Winspear Centre, and the Edmonton International Airport Office and Control Tower.

One of the Firm’s largest projects is the Calgary International Airport. DIALOG worked with the client to implement sustainability features such as geothermal wells for heating and cooling the floors, rain water harvesting and a high performance building envelope. The overall design will reduce annual energy consumption by an impressive 83 per cent. The Calgary Airport expansion will also launch western Canada’s first ‘Call to Gate’ concept when the additional 22 gates open and double the size and capabilities of the existing facility.

“DIALOG is a firm filled with creative minds and industry thought-leaders in architecture, planning, interior design, landscape architecture and engineering,” says Calgary Studio Managing Principal, Rob Adamson. “We have an excellent body of challenging projects and we empower our people to be design leaders, to excel at what they do and truly make a difference.”

Opportunities to work on city improvement initiatives such as Edmonton’s Walterdale Bridge allows employees to see the impact their work makes on communities – a story the Firm plans to share. Initially planned as a standard bridge replacement, DIALOG’s interdisciplinary team won-over City council with a vision of ‘what could be’. Opening in late 2015, the elegant through-arch bridge design will be a landmark of function and beauty for Edmontonians.

“Our people at DIALOG are the engine block behind our success,” says Adamson noting projects such Calgary’s New Central Library and Grande Prairie’s Regional Healthcare Centre. “A big part of our practice involves creating an engaging design culture around innovation, sustainability, creativity, and the opportunity to positively impact our communities.”

DIALOG is leading the way with sustainable design solutions that make a valuable impact on our environment and the future of the places we live.

DIALOG is the language of collaboration. The name conveys the firm’s uniquely collaborative approach, founded upon engagement of clients and communities by multidisciplinary teams in an interactive planning and design process that encompasses architecture, engineering, interior design, planning, urban design and landscape architecture services. It is an approach that has garnered international recognition for the firm’s outstanding contributions to the public realm and the design of cities.

In a world of increasing challenges in the way we live, move and work, DIALOG is a strong voice for innovative thinking and sustainable leadership – a discussion that benefits from the collaboration of people with unique perspectives. We attribute our strength to our multidisciplinary team of over 550 people who collaborate across four studios. http://www.dialogdesign.ca
